Carmen Isabel Leal Soares is Professor of Classical Studies at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Coimbra. She obtained the title of Aggregate in Ancient World in 2013, and obtained her PhD in Greek Literature in 2001, her master's degree in Classical Studies in 1996, and her bachelor's degree in Classical and Portuguese Languages and Literatures in 1993, Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Coimbra. She is currently the Scientific Coordinator of the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies of the University of Coimbra (https://www.uc.pt/en/cech), a research unit in which she is PI of the General Project (Classical and Humanistic Studies - Culture and Heritage) and of the Secondary Project DIAITA Heritage: Food, Environment and Well-being.


She is a member of the Scientific Council of the European Institute of Food History and Cultures (France) and member of the Coordinating Body of the Network of Higher Education Institutions for the Safeguarding of the Mediterranean Diet (Portugal). She is the Director of the PhD in Food Heritage, Vice-Director of the PhD in Classical Studies and of the MA in Food: Sources, Culture and Society, at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, University of Coimbra. She is also the Senior Editor of the DIAITA: Scripta & Realia and Greek Texts series (Coimbra University Press).


Carmen Soares has published more than 60 articles in specialised journals, 50 chapters of books and 35 books. She has organised 75 events and participated in 42. She (co-)supervises/d 13 PhD theses and supervises/d 18 master's dissertations. Received 4 awards and/or honours, and is currently participating as Researcher in 2 projects and acting as PI in 2 others. She works in the Humanities field of study, with emphasis on Classical Studies, History and Archaeology, Languages and Literature and Food Heritage. In her professional activities she has interacted with 38 collaborators contributing as coauthor to scientific publications.
